Pico de gallo is like a party on your palate! Easy to make, this zesty salsa Fresca is loaded with authentic Mexican flavor. Use it as a topping or as a dip with tortilla chips.


  • 6 roma tomatoes
  • 1 medium red onion, chopped
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • ¼ cup green onion, chopped
  • 2 clove garlic, minced
  • 1-2 medium jalapeno
  • fresh lemon juice from 1 large lemon (about 1/2cup)
  • 1.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  1. Step 1

    Chop the tomatoes into small pieces. Put them in a bowl with the onions, cilantro, and garlic. Set aside.

  2. Step 2

    Cut the jalapeno in half lengthwise, using a sharp knife. Remove the seeds and white membrane with a spoon (keep some membrane if you prefer it spicy). Dice the jalapeno finely and add it to the bowl.

    Cut the lemon in half and squeeze its juice over the contents of the bowl.

    Then, sprinkle some salt and pepper, stir everything well (observing that some of the juices are coming out), taste and adjust it according to your preferences.

    Finally, serve with chips and enjoy.

To avoid extreme spiciness, begin with only one jalapeno and add more based on your taste preferences at the end. Keep in mind that removing the seeds and membrane can help reduce the heat.
