Ingredients

  • 1 cup dill pickle slices
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for a kick)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Ranch or your favorite dipping sauce

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the Pickles. Drain the dill pickle slices and pat them dry with paper towels. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy coating.

Step 2

Mix the Dry Ingredients. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

Step 3

Coat the Pickles. Pour the buttermilk into another shallow dish. Dip each pickle slice into the buttermilk, then dredge it in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.

Step 4

Heat the Oil. In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat. The oil is ready when it reaches 375°F (190°C) or when a small drop of batter sizzles immediately upon contact.

Step 5

Fry the Pickles. Carefully place the coated pickle slices into the hot oil, a few at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.

Step 6

Drain and Serve. Remove the fried pickles from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Recipe tips

For an even crispier texture, dip the pickles in buttermilk and flour twice, creating a double coating. Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to suit your spice preference, or add a pinch of chili powder for a different flavor profile. For a lighter version, try air frying the pickles at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes, shaking halfway through.
